Ringo Flamingo gets a mention on the Today Show!

One of my buddies told me that a game I illustrated was featured on the Today show recently.
It gets mentioned about the 2:50 mark.
This has been a really fun game to illustrate...also won a 2009 Platinum Oppenheimer Best toy Award.
Woohoo!

Locker room Shenanigans

This was created for WWE Kids magazine. It was a memory game in which readers are to look at the image for about 20 seconds and then flip to the next page to answer questions about what they remember, I think there are about 20 questions.

Grrrrrrr!

Here's an illo I did for Guide magazine. It's a story about a young girl who is over worked and underpaid as a babysitter and then has to deal with a menacing Saint Bernard. The art director envisioned the mean dog towering over the girl.

How well do you know your wrestling moves.

As I've mentioned previously on my blog WWE Kids is a client of mine and gives me very interesting assignments. In this one Kids are supposed to figure out the various wrestling moves that are illustrated such as: Bonsai Drop, The Reality Check, Diamond Cutter, DDT, Superfly Splash, etc.
This one is on my website now but at it's current size you can't see all the details...so here it is a a lot bigger (be sure to click on the image).

Tis the season...already?

I've been doing a lot of caricature work for Christmas cards lately. This is for a company out of Charlotte NC, whom I've done their last 5 Christmas cards to date. The actual cards are configured differently, in which I illustrated bodies and all.... but I kind of like the way the heads look separately.
I have this up on my site now (in the caricature section) but you can see the detail better here.

Back to Basics

So I've started taking a life drawing class every wednesday....why you ask? Well after 12 years working digitally on a Mac and constantly illustrating cartoony non-proportional work, I thought it was time to brush up on my drawing skills. Don't get me wrong, I sketch all the time but they're usually fast doodles scanned into the computer then manipulated and sent off to the client for approval. Drawing from life with a subject patiently posing amongst a group of artists all trying to capture that moment is still pretty cool.

Dwight (Rainn Wilson) cracks me up!

So lately I've been watching back to back episodes of the Office while I work. I know I'm pretty late to jump on to the band wagon of Office fandom...but you see I've been living in Europe for almost the last 3 years and wasn't able to see it there. So I feel I've discovered something new and man is it funny!

Tongue Tied!

For the last year and a half, I've been lucky to do a fair amount of work for WWE Corp. Specifically for their kids magazine. One of the regular features that I do for them is a Body Oddity Series, in which I illustrate various Body functions/oddities incorporating WWE Talent. Surprising is that the articles are very specific and educational and visually really fun to do!
You can see some of these Oddities in the caricature section of my site.
This one is of Randy Orton who is a bit tongue tied with himself!

Beggin, Beggin, Beggin!

One of my favorite clients that I have been really fortunate enough to work with over the years is Purina. Here is some recent packaging we've done. The style of the dog (Hamlet) is a little more traditional but effective for their campaign. He is an icon going back many years and every 5 years or so it seems his appearance evolves. Glad to be a part of the latest evolution.

Shout Out from Drawn.ca

Drawn.ca is a website that I and many other illustrators use for monthly, weekly and even daily inspiration. It's a daily blog of creative talent from all over the globe. They've ignited my creative spark time and time and time again. Today I was fortunate to get a shout out from them. Thanks Drawn.ca

Bill Gates black and white study

So I was supposed to be taking a life study class this evening but felt too sick to attend (hope it's not the swine flu). I crawled to my office anyways and decided I would try some black and white stuff. Inspired by the day's events...I read an article about that Bill Gates is still rich (can you believe it) and turns out a pretty good guy.
So here's to Bill givin away some of his cash!

3D lenticular on the web...sort of!

Here's a page that RR Donnelly (huge printing company) has with my work in 3D. Brad Bartkus the designer who worked all his 3D magic said this piece made his Mac smoke...thanks Brad!

Summer Reading

Here's a series that I did For Scholastic recently. Jim Sarfati the AD had used me on a similar job last year with one illo. The concept was for a calendar series reminding kids to read over the summer months. Because last year's illustration was a success, I got to do 3 this time around...Thanks Jim!
